Oppikoppi will be celebrating their 24th iteration between 9 and 11 August, with the theme ‘Nomakanjani’ opening the way to a fun loving and free spirited music festival this year. Event organisers have promised to once again deliver a weekend filled with great music by an impressive lineup of local and international artists at Northam, Limpopo.
Every year, the OppiKoppi Boxing Association selects a tribute artist, and have recently announced that Oliver Mtukudzi will be receiving the honours this year.
Oliver Mtukudzi started performing in Zimbabwe in 1977, providing fans with 41 years of Tuku Tunes. “Oliver Mtukudzi ’s husky voice has become the most recognised to emerge from Zim and onto the international scene, and he has earned a devoted following across Africa and beyond. With no less than 58 albums under the boxing belt (that Wikipedia knows of), here is a musician who, besides being a respected businessman, philanthropist and human rights activist, continues to tour and perform relentlessly – with incomparable style,” states Oppikoppi’s media office in a statement announcing the nomination.
As in years past, Blue Array has been appointed the audio contractor for Oppikoppie, which promises to provide fans with the high-quality production that South Africans have come to expect from the festival. The Pro-Systems editorial team will be attending this years’ festival, where we will be chatting to the technical teams working behind the scenes to make it all happen – and look forward to seeing you there.
